From November 20, 2020, you can become a citizen of Malta 1 or 3 years after obtaining a residence permit.
Investors can obtain Maltese citizenship through naturalization through direct investment based on exceptional merit. This method is provided for by the Maltese Citizenship Act . The minimum investment amount is €690,000.

Costs for the investor

Investors fulfill three investment conditions: make a contribution to the National Development Fund, a charitable contribution to a non-governmental organization, and buy or rent real estate.

All three conditions are required.

The amount of the contribution to the fund determines when the investor will be able to apply for citizenship.

With a contribution amount of 600,000 €, the period of resident status is 3 years, and with an amount of 750,000 € - 1 year.

The investor applies for a residence permit. To do this, he needs to rent housing for at least 12,000 € for a period of one to three years.

After a year or three, the investor applies for citizenship. To do this, he needs to enter into a new lease contract worth at least 16,000 € per year. The property must be rented for five years.

Investors purchase real estate for an amount starting from 700,000 €.
He undertakes to retain ownership of it for five years from the date of receipt of citizenship. After this period, the property can be sold and the invested funds can be recovered.

First, the investor applies for a residence permit. To get it, he rents real estate for an amount of 12,000 € for one or three years.

After a year or three, the investor applies for citizenship. To do this, he enters into a new lease agreement - for 16,000 € per year. The property must be rented for 5 years.

The completed package of documents is sent to the program department or other authorized government body. The applicant pays the Due Diligence fee and the due diligence process begins. All family members over 16 years of age undergo this process.

Fulfillment of investment conditions
Up to 3 months
Once the program department or other decision-making body notifies Ways to Europe that the application has been approved, the investor fulfills the investment condition of the program: making a contribution to a government fund or purchasing real estate. A period of 90 days is provided for this.

Receiving a passport
From 6 weeks

6 weeks after the investment condition is fulfilled, a passport and a certificate of naturalization are issued. They are sent by mail to the address specified by the investor.
